Fitness Background: My journey into health and fitness began late in my high school career when I was severely overweight (210 pounds at 5’6”). I began with a typical bodybuilding routine and eventually found CrossFit by word of mouth. I was accepted into the Exercise Science program at the University of Pittsburgh and learned the science behind human anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and structured programming. Throughout my entire undergraduate career, I coached at several CrossFit gyms around the city of Pittsburgh, further developing my knowledge with the help of countless other coaches and hundreds of CrossFit members.
CrossFit is addicting to me. From the euphoria that I experience after an extremely difficult workout to a simple “hello, how are you?” from the members keeps me coming back every day. Everyone in the box goes through workouts and feels the same pain I do, and it comforts me to know that I can share those feelings with others without being judged. CrossFit has given me a family that spans states, and to me there is nothing more important than our family and friends.
What we do can be intimidating. From the numerous youTube videos to the 30 times a barbell gets dropped during “Grace,” this stuff isn’t easy. If I could give back to the members of CrossFit in any way, it would be to make them feel comfortable in their own skin and to enable them the strength to believe in themselves. Nothing is more empowering than having others have confidence in you even when you believe you’re staring defeat in the face, and that is my passion – to prove to others that they can, and to prove to others that they will.
